Cora Berube Four-track punk pop, hidden gem of the cuddlecore canon, catchy and dynamic. Fun you really want to be having. And I am the biggest fan of Billy Bragg. Favorite track: The Biggest Fan of Billy Bragg.

about

McCartney meets The Buzzcocks? Mission of Burma meets The Monkees? Not exactly, but these Pioneer Valley friends made the best catchy racket they could.

In fall 1995, little local label runners Aimee and Amy invited Ken to contribute a song to their upcoming compilation, on one condition: it had to be from his brand-new band. Which didn't exist yet. (Gulp.) But soon it did, thanks to Joel (from Tizzy) and Rich (from Stringbean). This is the trio's debut cassette EP, copies of which were made one at a time on Ken's trusty tape deck.

The band made it as far east as Cambridge, MA, opening the second night of Popfest 97 1/2, which resulted in this online review from a new fan: "All I can say is Ribboncandy!! They were SO great. I couldn't believe they were first, and so good. They were energetic, semi-punky (yet without snotty vocals) and as catchy as various diseases. All that, and the bass player jumped up and down a lot!!! I'd have to say that I prefer 'Marzipan' to the Billy Bragg song, but every song was good, every one."
